Lafayette Event Focused on West Ward Study: Dec. 4th

The Lafayette students that have been involved in Dr. Dan Bauer’s Tech Clinic are giving their final presentation on Thursday, December Dec 4 at 5:00 p.m. RM 104, Kirby Hall.

The students have focused this clinic on developing five objectives for our neighborhood.
1.) Develop and effective use for the escarpment: Cleaning the area of the escarpment and creating a trail system to create a connection between the urban neighborhoods and the natural environment surrounding the West Ward.
2.) Construct an urban ecology center: Having a structure as a focal point for urban ecology education and a connection between the escarpment and the West Ward.
3.) Promote a more pedestrian friendly urban neighborhood: Slowing car traffic and improving ease and enjoyment of pedestrian traffic through signage and increased foliage.
4.) Enhance recreational opportunities: In addition to restoring pocket parks, introduce waterfront recreational facilities.
5.) Preserve open space: Address the current park space deficiency in Easton by bringing more attention to the pocket parks and community garden in addition to creating more open natural space. This should be an interesting an informative session that would be useful to cantons in planning for and implementing best practices for community gardens and park space.
