The Latest on Trains

Since "Bringing the Train Back to Easton" ranked second in my poll on topics that concern residents of the West Ward most, I'm posting a nice article that appeared in the Morning Call on development of rail in our area, the rest of the country, and the world at large. We definitely need to get behind this (appearing at City and County Council meetings) so we don't miss the federal funding that will come out in 2009 to those states with a plan for rail already underway:

Morning Call Article by Paul Marin on Current Rail Development

The good news is that the County recently approved $75,000 for the study for rail development in the Lehigh Valley. We need to be vigilant about supporting this study at every stage where public input is possible. Letters to the editors of Morning Call and Express Times are a great place to start. I will keep an eye/ear out for City and County Council meetings on this topic so that as many people as possible can come out to support this effort. Getting rail in the Lehigh Valley will do wonders to spur our local economy, add to our tax base as more new home owners venture out to our area because of the convenience of rail to Philadelphia, New York, and New Jersey, not to mention what it would do for our property values!
