Urgent: West Ward for City Council Race

Apparently two of our three candidates have dropped out of the race for the West Ward rep on City Council. Karen Denenberg was forced to drop out because apparently, when the Home Rule Charter was drawn up, the electoral map of Easton's neighborhoods was redrawn, cutting off slices of the West Ward on the East and North to be added to the College Hill/Downtown district, so that each of the three districts would have roughly the same population. Also, apparently Edward Elam has dropped from the City Council race of his own accord, citing a desire to focus instead on his Future Leaders of Freedom Project:

When I find out what the precise electoral borders are for our neighborhood, I will edit this post to add the info. In the meantime, if any of you are considering running for City Council, there's no time to lose--here are the important dates to know:

First day to get candidacy petitions signed: Feb. 17
Last day to get candidacy petitions signed: March 10
First day to file nomination papers: March 11
Last day to withdraw: March 25
Last day to register to vote: April 20
Last day to register for absentee ballot: May 12
Last day to receive absentee ballots: May 15
General Election: Nov. 3

This may seem crazy, but we need to focus on the positive: We will now not only have a WW rep on City Council, but we will also have an effect on the College Hill/Downtown election. Their candidates will need to come campaign in the geographical WW (that's us), so the West Ward will be a hotbed of political activity and our issues will likely get more press coverage, which is good for bringing up the neighborhood.

What do you think of this? Please post your opinions in a comment below, and don't forget to vote in the poll at the bottom of the page if you haven't already!
