Two Community Gardens Planted--Stop By To Check Them Out!

Thanks to the West Ward Neighborhood Partnership and all the neighbors (including the four young boys who showed up of their own volition) who helped put in our two new community gardens! If you weren't able to be there, please drive by and take a look : )

We had a great turnout (we even had people from other neighborhoods helping--how great is that?) and couldn't have asked for more perfect weather. Extra special thanks to Sophia and Joanne for organizing the events, to the Cornerstone Church for its volunteers who helped all day, and to everyone who donated materials to the projects.

Mayor Panto has been very supportive of our goal to create more community gardens in the West Ward and coordinated with the Dept. of Public Works to get the dump trucks of soil and mulch delivered. The mayor was there both days to cheer us on. If you'd like to send him a thank you, please click on the link to city government on the right of this screen to get contact info for the mayor's office.

So we got all the raised beds constructed and filled, and the holes dug out for the fence posts. The next step will be to finish the fences, and than plant! : )

If you would like to help out with the fences and/or planting on one of the gardens, please call either Sophia at the West Ward Neighborhood Partnership or Joanne Czeck, depending on which garden is closest to you:

Won't it be terrific this summer when we can all just walk to the gardens when we want a salad, or tomatoes and peppers for a sauce instead of going to the grocery store?
