10th & Pine Community Garden Workday, Saturday, May 9th, 10am-Noon

Below is a message from Sophia Feller of the West Ward Neighborhood Partnership regarding the next work day for the community garden on 10th & Pine:

Hi to all,

I'm planning a workday at the South 10th street community garden on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to Noon. We have tomato, basil and pepper plants to go in and cucumber, bean and summer squash seeds to plant. We can build the trellis for the cucumbers and beans and look at the materials on hand for a fence. I also have some marigolds to go in the corners of the beds and around the tomato plants. The flower beds are empty and need to be filled. If anyone has something they want to transplant or seed in the vegetable or flower beds, please bring it along. There is also some weeding to do!

We had a 300 gallon water tank donated and we need to come up with a design so water can gravity feed from it to the garden. We also had 1 inch thick bricks, that go on top of the cinder blocks, donated. They are in a shed in Bethlehem and I need some help to go and get them on Friday afternoon.

It should be a fun morning, bring your gardening gloves, trowels and a hoe (if you have one) it's supposed to be cloudy and cool, a good day to plant.

Last week, the neighborhood kids and I planted one whole bed with lettuce, parsley, kale, broccoli and brussel sprout plants. This week of rain has been perfect for the seedlings and they look phenomenal! In another week or two we can all be eating lettuce from the garden!

See you Saturday,
Fia
