Plans Approved for New Gas Station and Landscaping for Getty

The owner of the Dunkin' Donuts on 13th & Northampton, Raj Patel, has purchased the Getty across the street that has been a blight on the West Ward and an embarrassing gateway to Easton of 22 for years. The Planning Commission has given him the green light to build a new Sunoco gas station with some nice landscaping (thanks to planning suggestions proposed by West Ward residents in Canton 7 & 8), as soon as Getty pulls the toxic tanks out of the hole that we currently see every time we drive by.

Morning Call Article by Michael Duck on Planning Approval for New Owner of Getty

While I'd much rather see some of the businesses that West Ward residents voted for in the poll at the bottom of this page, such as a grocery store, a cafe, or a theatre, any nice new business with good landscaping will be a huge improvement over the blighted structure that attracts the criminal element now.  I am glad that Mr. Patel is helping to improve the neighborhood by taking ownership as he can and incorporating resident suggestions for beautification.

I'm on the Planning Commission now and will have an in-depth response to the Getty Mart preliminary approval later in the week when time allows me to write it up. A lot of details didn't make the paper.
