West Ward Resident Opens New Cafe on Northampton Street

WW Resident and Owner of the new Terra Cafe, Manuel Fresneda

Posted by: Noel Jones

If, like me, you were disappointed to see Coffee Exchange near Center Square close down recently, you will be as happy as I am to learn that an entrepreneur from our neighborhood has opened the new Terra Café in its place!

Terra Cafe is located at 321 Northampton Street. Partners Manuel Fresneda and Marcel Bedoya are offering organic fair trade certified coffee from different parts of the world. A familiar and friendly face to many of us in Easton, Manuel came here eleven years ago from Colombia, lives in the West Ward, and has been a most gracious presence working and serving in some of our best local restaurants. Terra Café will offer Wi-Fi and will showcase arts and crafts by artists near and far. Fruit and pastries will be offered as well as soups, salads and homemade desserts prepared by Cherubina. Venga vea! Come!

Hours are Monday -Wednedsay 5:30-5:00, Thursday – Saturday 5:30-6:00 with special hours for State Theater events.

Earl and I are really looking forward to going here, since it opens early enough for Early to get to his hospital on time, an hour's drive.

I like that the hours are later than the previous cafe.

Mucho gusto!!

I'm am somewhat embarrassed to admit that I have only been to Cherubina's twice...both times in the last two years. I say this because my real estate office was involved in selling them the building over a decade ago for the ridiculously fair price of $80,000.

I should have gone in there a long time ago but I will say that each time I was there the food was excellent and Manuel served me and my guest on both occassions. He is an experienced restuaranteur, with ample knowledge of the ingredients and preparation methods...good with wine selection too (it's BYOB though).

He looked and sounded like someone who was going places so I'm happy he has inherited the Coffee Exchange location. Give him business. Locals deserve our first consideration...unless and until they do something to screw it up.

while Manuel and Marcel offer coffee from Columbia and Brazil, i have to say that the "Artist's Blend" that i had today was incredibly smooth--it reminded me of Kona coffee, which is my favorite, because of its lack of acidity and rich taste.

Terra Cafe has put up some art and is also selling beautiful hand-sewn fabric art pieces as well as laptop bags, etc. all from poor villages in Columbia. it is all coming together with a lot of color and vibrancy in there--i look forward to watching it develop (and drinking the Artist's Blend!).
