Auditions for The Vagina Monologues: Friday, January 22nd 7pm at TranquiliTea House

The Vagina Monologues will be performed in Easton April 16-18

Posted by: Noel Jones

Eve Ensler's infamous script The Vagina Monologues is coming to Easton this Spring and will be staged at TranquiliTea House on 4th and Spring Garden Streets, casting local residents to perform these famous monologues. If you have never seen a production of this show, it is at once heartbreaking and hilarious, and the monologues are all taken from interviews with real women around the world--I highly recommend it!

Auditions for the show will be held this Friday, January 22nd at 7pm at TranquiliTea at 104 N. 4th Street. Auditions are open to women ages 18-99. There are an assortment of characters, from young girls to teenagers, women and grandmothers, so all are welcome! If you are interested in auditioning, please stop by TranquiliTea and ask for a copy of the monologue segments so that you can practice before the audition. You do not have to have the piece memorized for the audition, but it is a good idea to read through it ahead of time,
so that you can be comfortable and look up as much as possible while auditioning. This is a terrific opportunity for any of you who might have some speaking or acting experience, as well as for those with no experience who have always wanted to try it. Because all of the roles are monologues, there is not a lot of physical acting going on--mostly sitting and speaking, so it's a great way to try acting if you've always been curious but shy about jumping in. There are many roles available, so come out and give it a try--the scripts are really fun.

The playwright allows the play to be produced each year for a number of weeks, with permission, as long as all proceeds are donated to an anti-violence charity for women. Proceeds from the TranquiliTea production will be donated to the women's shelter at The Third Street Alliance in Easton.

And if you haven't been to TranquiliTea yet, it's a really wonderful family-owned tea house, beautifully decorated with a menu that has a wide selection of delicious, intriguing teas.

The Vagina Monologues is indeed a wonderful production, shining so much light on how women see ourselves and how we feel about our "flower". This production speaks to ALL of us women and it is a true reflection of us. This play will make you laugh, cry, laugh so hard until you cry...It is a must see!

You can see Lafayette College's production of the Vagina Monologues in late February. I'll post the exact dates and times once I know. Lafayette College's Association of Lafayette Feminists puts on this production every other year.

It will be great to compare that two as the settings and cast will be so different...

Alan~are all the roles played by students in the Lafayette production? I'm also curious to know which charity the proceeds of the Lafayette show are going to?

The roles are played by Lafayette students, staff, and faculty. The performance itself is directed by two students. I sent one of the directors an email, and I'll post more information once I know.

Thanks, Alan! I went to the auditions at TranquiliTea last night and the diverse pool of women trying out for the show gave me the sense that it is going to be a robust version of this show. I for one am going to really enjoy seeing both versions!

Lafayette's version will be on February 25, 26, and 27th at 8:00 PM. They will be in the Marlo Room of our Farinon Student Center. Thirty Lafayette students and staff are in the cast, with other Lafayette students and staff working behind the scenes with stage crew, etc. Tickets are $5 each. 10% of the proceeds will benefit V-day.org's spotlight in the Congo effort. The rest of the proceeds will benefite Turning Point.
