What happens when you put a French jazz pianist, and upright bassist, a jazz vocalist, a poet, a painter, a sculptor and an Emmy Award winning animation artist in a room together? The kind of inspirational evening only to be found in Easton, PA!
Yours truly will be performing poetry this Saturday with a cast of other artists as part of a great series that has been going on in Easton for a few months now: Poladian's Palladium, created by West Ward resident and jazz pianist, Patrick Poladian. This will be the final show of this series, and it will be a benefit to raise money for the orphanage that another West Ward neighbor, Tim Pickel, works with in Haiti: Rescue Children Orphanage. Tim helped to build this orphanage through Lifechurch of Allentown, only to see it destroyed in the recent earthquake. Thankfully, the children are all safe, but the orphanage has been destroyed, and they will have to rebuild on land outside of Port-au-Prince. The orphanage hopes to build a bigger structure this time, as they anticipate having twice the original number of orphans, due to so many children losing their parents in the quake.
Since I know that it is important to people to feel confident that their donations are ending up where they are intended, here is how the cover charge and donations for the event will work: the cover is $20 at the door, and 50% of the proceeds will go to Lifechurch for Rescue Children Orphanage. You can bring a $10 check made out to...
Lifechurch
1401 East Cedar Street
Allentown, PA 18109
(Please write Rescue Children Orphanage in the memo section)
...and pay the other $10 for the cover in cash, or if you forget your checkbook, you can simply pay the whole $20 in cash and half will be separated out as part of the donation.
Here is the info on the other artists featured in this event:
* Michele Bautier, vocalist "Her three-octave range is more than matched by her intelligence that finds the plumb line to the cord of whatever she sings." (Stephen Holden, The New York Times)
*Christopher Dean Sullivan, bassist
*Emmy Award winning MaGik, animator (and West Ward resident!--to watch a sample of his work check his web site here, which is also on the side bar of this home page)
*Ian and Abigail Crofts, sculptor and painters (both are painters)
Poladian's Palladium is located at 207 Church Street, #5A
Wine and Cheese will be served. Space limited, reservations suggested, or get there early for best available seats! Please call (917) 853-7565 or (610) 253-3040 for reservations.
I hope to see you there, and many thanks in advance for supporting Rescue Children Orphanage in Haiti!

I think it's so cool how so many people in the WW are coming together to raise relief $$ for victims of the earthquake in Haiti. In addition to this benefit, and the donations already given from our earlier blog post about the orphanage, there is also a server named Courtney that works at Porter's that decided of her own accord to donate all her tips from an entire day of work to the relief effort, and Porters Pub matched what she made, totaling a $1600 donation!
Just one more reason to love our favorite pub!
The address is 207 Church Street, #5A. if you're on 3rd street going toward The Quadrant, you take your first right on Church and it's a block and a half down on the left--hope to see everyone there!
