Bed Bugs: For Those Who Ever Thought A Beagle Was An Unlikely Superhero

Underdog to the rescue!

Posted by: Noel Jones

This post deserves more photos than usual, because it covers both superheroes (beagles) and villains (bed bugs). You have probably heard by now that there is a national epidemic of bed bugs in our nation, in part, due to the discontinued use of the toxic DDT that was once used regularly to kill bugs--especially bed bugs. Symptoms of DDT poisoning are pretty nasty, so it's a good thing that we're not using it anymore. But it does leave us  with a new problem--increased infestations with bed bugs--that we have to combat. This evil villain has even invaded the ivory towers of Manhattan, as covered in the New York Times last week, so Easton is no exception, as covered by Christopher Baxter of The Morning Call. And as discussed in the article, the stigma that comes with getting bed bugs is as contagious as the bugs themselves. I'm certainly taking a wide berth around any discarded sofas and

mattresses on the street--the little buggers do jump. What does a city being held hostage by an evil villain do, but call out for a superhero to

save the day? Enter the beagles! This takes the phrase "man's best friend" to a whole new level.

Be on the alert for our villain, who likes to several different costumes--take note:

Here's what these little vampires bites look like:

Good night, sleep tight, and don't let the bed bugs bite!

Just heard that the welfare office in Easton has been closed due to bed bugs--time to call in the beagles!

FYI bedbugs, although demonic, do not jump. they are only capable of crawling. however, they have been known to crawl across ceilings to drop onto their desired location (ie, you).

this may give you some peace of mind while walking next to a discarded mattress (just don't touch it!)!
