The 13th Street Fear Factory will open Oct. 1st
in the West Ward's old Simon Silk Mill
Posted by: Noel Jones
We will have a haunted house in the neighborhood for the month of October, located in the vacant buildings of the old Simon Silk Mill. Joe Drogo and Don Johnson were looking to relocate their haunted house in Tatamy, and the Easton Housing Authority saw an opportunity to utilize the old silk mill property while it awaits development, so the new 13th Fear Factory seemed a perfect fit (unless, of course, the real ghosts of the old silk mill have an issue with the new tenants...)
From Ed Sieger's article in the Express Times, it seems like a lot of work was put into this, with the design aspect starting in April and the construction doing on since July. Apparently a lot of mazes have been constructed in one of the buildings, and I'm wondering if we will see signage for the Fear Factory at Movies at the Mill tomorrow night...
According to Don, they are still taking volunteers for the line crew and possible back-up positions. If you or anyone you know is interested, click the Fear Factory web site link above to contact Don and Joe.

Telling me they have been planning mazes since Spring is a great selling point! 13th street, perfect.
Thanks for posting the weblink. I am looking forward to the GalleryWithin reception.
I have two extra tickets to the film festival tonight...
film fest was great and I am looking forward to taking my kids to the haunted house. Who would have guessed, right here in Easton!!!
the film festival was even better this year than last year, and yes--i talked to several people at the event last night who were excited about the Fear Factory coming next month--i think being in and around those buildings made the prospect even more intriguing than when they first heard of it...
Just in the interest of accuracy, the Silk Mill is owned by the Easton Redevelopment Authority - not the Easton Housing Authority. This is a common misconception of various property's ownership I hear often about local projects. The ERA is renting out the space for a token amount over the next two years (Hallowen season only) in exchange for permanent improvements to the building by the tenant.
This building use required Planning Commission approval, which was granted during our September meeting. There was considerable questioning and discussion (interogation really) over the details of the rent, fire protection, rent amount, overflow parking and traffic issues.
Although I understand the concerns from a theortetical standpoint I had much less concern for most of this than other members. I think the issues - parking especially - will take care of themselves. I am glad to see the ERA taking a proactrive role to get the building occopied for productive purposes. It provides site security for at least part of the year and sets a good example for others holding vacant property to accept less money to get positive activity into the city.
I wish them luck.

This the best news I have heard in a while. Maybe ever. A Halloween event in walking distance...dreams do come true ;)
Just emailed my entire workplace the link. I hope everyone checks it out!
Thanks for the correction, Dennis--flipped the names--sorry about that!
