Ed Sieger has a super cute story in the ET on two little girls who ran a snow cone machine to raise money to donate for the peace candle:

'peace' candle on a war monument, I love irony.
even better is when the pieces are unceremoniously dumped (stored?) behind the city building on Bushkill for all to see most of the rest of the year. and they wonder why the thing is falling apart.
idiots.

Anon 7:53--i hear you. i personally prefer the statue and would rather just have white lights around the statue, but i know a lot of Eastonians and other people from the LV that have come to love the tradition and anticipate the lighting, so i have softened my take on it. any tradition that brings community together in a positive way is important these days, whether it's a peace candle, a football game, or anything else.
