Ice Storm and Hazardous Driving Conditions: DO NOT DRIVE Unless Absolutely Necessary!

Posted by: Noël Jones

Please read the WINTER STORM WARNING for Northampton County below. Most of you know that I am from Alaska and therefore never let a little snow stop me from getting anywhere, but ice storms are different--and completely treacherous for driving. It is already extremely icy out there and only going to get worse later today after it is predicted to rain and then freeze over--they are saying on Channel 69 that everyone should try not to drive if possible and there have already been a couple of accidents.

drove 29 mi to rt100 area this morning. slow going, but not nearly the worst we've had. traction was good, no cars in ditches, not really that bad.

This post pretty much convinced me to stay home. Anybody have a report on 78 Eastbound?

I love U noel....but if U tell someone not to do something.they do it anyway.they think of a reason where they have to do otherwise...it may be bedtime and they only have 8 cigarettes.OH NO.I need cigarettes.and god forbid your girlfriend is an alcoholic.she will HAVE to go to a bar,and get drunk to make U carry her in the ice....tunsie

Tunsie's Winter Advisory Alert:

Ration your cigarettes rather than walking to the store today, due to hazardous walking conditions, and no carrying drunk girlfriend's home from bars until this storm passes!

Anon 8:22--glad to hear it, i think sometimes the highways are better than the neighborhood roads--my two roommates couldn't even get their cars out of their parking spaces this morning, and i had a hard time walking without slipping...i'm very worried for everyone's commute home, as the rain is supposed to freeze over and that means black ice...

this morning at 5:44 a.m. there were already two accidents reported on Channel 69 and speed limits were reduced to 45 mph--i hope that everybody drives really slowly today if you must drive at all...

Isn't that a given.if the weather is inclement.U don't need to be a rocket scientist to drive extra carefully.but than again there R smart people out there, and nothing is gonna happen to them....I see crazy people, they dont know they're crazy....but I can see them coming a mile away,baby......TUNSIE

I have a unique situation - I live in PA and work in NJ, so I'm at the mercy of two forecasts - lol

Sometimes it's fine up here, and as soon as I hit Hackettstown, it's a nightmare. Other times - vice versa. Thank God for telecommuting.

hey Untouched Takaway, you think living in PA and working in NJ is unique? LOLZ...
anyway, driving this morning was worse than yesterday IMHO. but the WORST part was coming down Spring Garden St and a typical fcukin ahole is facing uphill, stopped in the middle of the block picking up his ride!
real fckin smart, stop in the middle of an icy HILL!
I flashed my lights he DID NOT MOVE; I had to squeeze between him and a parked car.
between the ahole renters who refuse to shovel out anything beside their own car, and the aholes who double park, the city is more dangerious than rt 22!

a food post is a good idea...i occasionally post about restaurants (like the porters post) but i have not just done a general post on where to find the best food in Easton...good idea. stayed tuned.

as for the weather, brace yourselves, because we have an arctic front bearing down on us mid-week and the temperatures will be in the single digits.

@PissedOffEastonDriver

Perhaps that was a bad choice of words - lol - but it *is* unique to me having lived in NJ for 15 years.

UT--your word choice is just fine--and I appreciate that you post with a moniker, instead of as "Anonymous!"
