Tornado Watch for Easton Area!

If you see this before 9pm please get in your basement NOW.

Posted by: Noël Jones

Channel 69 News is telling everyone in the Lehigh Valley to get into our basements NOW. Stop reading this. GET INTO YOUR BASEMENT. This is a real tornado watch!

If you don't have a basement, get to the lowest floor of your house and seek shelter in a closet. Whatever you do, PLEASE stay away from your windows. Turn the TV up so you can hear it from where you are. This is for Warren, Hunterdon, Lehigh and Northampton Counties!

Too late for me. It already passed thru Nazareth.

they are saying that the storms have weakened slightly, and the tornado danger should be past us, but now they are talking about 70mph winds in Forks and warning about straight-line winds (meaning gusts straight down)

Channel 69 also just said that although the immediate threat is past, everyone should keep the TV on just in case because there is a slight chance that another storm cell coming might have tornado warnings as well, but nothing has developed in that cell yet.

That was a good rehearsal for what if anyway.

definitely. it's good to have a plan in place. i took a flashlight, bottled water, coat, cell phone and my laptop and posted from the basement because the wi-fi reached...next time i won't have to think about it...

i guess for families especially it's good to have blankets and pillows in the basement...

A watch means that the conditions are right for a tornado. A warning means there has been a tornado spotted on the ground by sight or radar. There is a BIG difference between watch and warning. Watch you are still outside looking for it and warning means get your butt to the basement.

i remember Channel 69 saying that a) there was rotation in the sky and, b) that a correspondent had spotted the beginnings of a funnel (but i don't think it ever came close to touching down)--i forget where, i want to say that it was in the nazareth area, but not sure. what is for sure is that they were telling everyone over and over on the TV to turn their TVs up and get into either basements, or ground floor closets, for those who don't have basements...

Hi all, the federal Govt has put up some really good info on this sort of thing at www.ready.gov
I'll knock wood here that we don't have to deal with tornadoes today.
And our hearts go out to those who have been affected.
Peace,
David
Also the complete idot's guide to disaster preparedness can be had from Amazon for under $20.00 and is well worth a look.

i can't believe that Oklahoma and Missouri are getting hit again today after just getting devastated...i hope these storm cell fizzle out before they get this far east, but i feel so badly for them...

i think it's time to realize that we are experiencing some unusual weather patterns and should have emergency plans in place, so that if we have any more warnings, we at least know to get water, blankets a cell phone and a flashlight and get to our basements/closets as fast as we can.

Well, we agree there. It's a good idea to have a basic "go-Bag" or Box , a Kit as they call it on ready.gov.
Our govt. has admitted that things are tricky right now and that emergency relief might take time to get to people and as such they're telling us to take what actions we can to be secure within ourselves.
Net working with friends, having out of area contacts and a host of other ideas and checklists are presented.
If possible they are worth putting into practice.
Anyhow, yeah...I lived in Missouri, have family there, just hope everyone is well.
Peace,
David
