Forks Township Scraps Its Own Plan to Instead Consider Collaborating with Easton to Build Skate Park in Lower Hacketts Park

Posted by: Noël Jones

Now this seems sensible--According to Pamela Sroka-Holzmann's article for the Express-Times, Forks Township has decided in this recession that maybe working together with the City of Easton to build a skate park in Lower Hacketts Park with Easton's Boys and Girls Club Teen Center and business sponsors in the community makes more sense than spending a bunch of tax money to build their own in addition to the one that our youth have been fundraising to build for over a year now. This means it could cost a lot less for both Forks and Easton, and the kids are that much closer to getting the park they've been working so hard for. Collaboration. Saving tax money. Giving youth something healthy and active to do. I like it!

Thanks Noel. we think so as well. Everyone benefits. When I announced this concept at the SkateFest several weeks ago I also asked the young adults there tio get involved and go to their local meetings to lobby for this to happen. It's nice to see people in Forks and Palmer (I have also spoken to Dave Colver in Palmer) thinking regionally for shared services.

Thanks, Mayor, for supporting these kids in their goal, as they have been working with such industry and commitment toward it, fundraising, finding business sponsors, etc. I think with projects like this, kids not only come out with something healthy and active and positive to do, but they also learn a lot about being engaged in their local political system, and what goes into taking a project like this from conception to manifestation, which is every bit as valuable (if not more valuable) than the benefits of the skate park itself.
