I know this day is filled with wonderful, perfect-weather-picnics but I've been reminded, through many email, about what Memorial Day is about-- honoring those who have served.
"Memorial Day, which falls on the last Monday of May, commemorates the men and women who died while serving in the American military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, at least, it marks the beginning of summer."
Ok. Back to the avocado. Thanks to all who joined us at the 5th St. Community Garden pot luck last Friday evening. Great company, conversation, food and view. Annette's salad received best reviews as her salad bowl was emptied rather quickly. Quinoa-avocado recipe here. Howard's Tiramisu, recipe here, and Suzanne's Trifle were incredible as were other yummy desserts which are always my favorite.
Our next pot luck at the garden will be Friday, June 18th.

Thanks, Joanne! I just re-read this post and realized that there were RECIPES at the end--thanks to the neighbors who shared their secrets!
Btw, I noticed that there is also a nice recipe for cheesecake with the tiramisu recipe--and extra bonus.
