Article on West Ward City Council Race
Here's an article on the race for West Ward rep on City Council, complete with the new boundaries of the West Ward's electoral district. Now that Karen Denenberg can't run, Mike Fleck--who has never attended a canton meeting, nor did he come out to the Neighborhood Summit Meeting with the Mayor last Wednesday to learn the specific concerns of West Ward residents--is running unopposed to represent us on City Council. We need more candidates to step forward so that we have a chance to vote for a truly concerned resident that has put some time and energy into this neighborhood. Anyone interested?

God bless the West Ward. Mike Fleck will do his best to misrepresent the people there. Not showing up at canton meetings and the Mayor's summit in the West Ward last week is an indication of what will come. Fleck loves to throw money around and big ideas yet hasn't the slightest idea what truly serving the people is about.
Without opposition he will join several other politicians on council that do nothing but collect paychecks. For them politics is a way of life not a servitude to the people they represent.
The good news for Mike is that he finally found an opponent he can beat. His name is "unopposed."
It is sad that the West Ward will have little or no true representation on city council. It is also sad that this city has split our ward into two sections, denying us the unity we so desparetly need. Dr. Ruggles cannot put his entire effort into the West Ward while representing College Hill. Mr. Fleck, if elected, only represents himself.
Left with no true representation in city government, WE are the ones that will have to enact change. In a conversation I had with a West Ward resident yesterday, I voiced the opinion that more can be done outside of city government than being on council. It is up to us to make the change by holding council accountable for their actions.
By the way, here's some more detailed information, via my post on the Two Rivers Daily blog, about where precisely the West Ward voting district ends.
