More CDBG $$ Coming to Easton Through Stimulus Package

Below is an article from the Morning Call that mentions $257,151 in additional Community Development Block Grant money coming into Easton as part of the president's stimulus package. We need to keep the pressure on the mayor and the City to makes sure that some of that money goes to effective street cleaning and code enforcement against slumlords in the West Ward so that we can attract good prospective home owners to the neighborhood and add to our tax base:

Morning Call Article by Scott Kraus on Stimulus Money Coming to the Lehigh Valley

By HUD definition, 70% of all CDBG money should be going to low-income neighborhoods. So by rights, that federal tax money should be used for improvements in our neighborhood, where we have the highest percentage of low-income families in Easton, and 40% of the city's population.

If it takes a bunch of us heading down to a City Council meeting to get that message across, then this could be a good opportunity to make sure that our city officials, and the public, start hearing the voice of the West Ward loud and clear. Hopefully, the mayor heard us, and will address our issues with the new CDBG money right away. Stay tuned!

did you see the article about the state of the city. I was art the breakfast and the mayor announced thast we will have a city wide street cleaning program later this year. Sounds good to me.

CDBG requires a hearing. if you have a request then submit the appolication and go to the hearing. I am on the board of an organization who got a grant two years ago.
