Field Trip and Urban Gardening Program

A message from Igho Herbert of the urban ecology (canton) program:

Residents of the West Ward are invited to be part of a community gardens picnic/field trip to Project Harmony Gardens in Harlem New York on Saturday, March 21st 2009.
* An all day event of fun, learning and eating
* Transportation is being provided by CACLV/WWNP.
* People are invited to bring along home-made sandwiches, muffins, cookies, fruits, etc and lemonades, water, juices etc to share with others-after all we are neighbors!
* Please also come along with your cameras, notebooks and pens: so much to learn and memories to record for posterity.
* Departure is 8:00 a.m. so be at the WWNP office by 7:45
* Call 610 515 0891 to secure your seat.
* Remember, this year we are planting and making lots of GARDENS in the West Ward.

Below is a web site on a really cool urban gardening program in Philadelphia--a pilot program aimed at using city-owned open space for greenhouse farming on an interim basis, or up to five years--maybe we could get something similar going here!
