Below is an announcement from the Easton Library:
Established in 1849, the Easton Cemetery is the earliest and best surviving example of a romantic parklike cemetery in the Lehigh Valley. Easton resident Kay Wolff will present “A History of the Easton Cemetery” at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, at the Easton Area Public Library.
Thousands of examples of funerary artwork, in a variety of decorative styles spanning Greco Roman Revival, Gothic Victorian, and Art Deco, fill the landscape of the Cemetery. Among the architecturally noteworthy features are a Gothic Revival gatehouse and office, stable, chapel, and Gothic frame workshop.
The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library, who will hold their annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. The program is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required. Light refreshments will be provided. The Library is located at 515 Church Street. The program will be held in the Catherine Drake Meeting Room, which is handicapped accessible.
