Below is a message from Sophia on the progress on the 10th & Pine community garden. It is looking great--the flower beds by the street are planted now and the group built a bamboo trellis for the beans to climb. The lettuce is already ready to pick! There is still work to be done on the fence and the water tank platform. The next work day is this Sunday at 4:30pm:
Dear garden friends,
The Garden at South 10th and Pine is coming along beautifully and I am planning another workday for Sunday, May 31st at 4:30 p.m. Another trellis needs to be designed and built for the cucumbers. We will have a load of composted manure to distribute to the plants. There is the possibility of building another flower bed along South 10th and the water tank needs to be set up on blocks and leveled. Also, we may be planting some boxwood bushes! There is still some lettuce to be picked and then that part of the bed needs to be replanted Carrots? Beets? Radishes? Cabbage? More lettuce? Bring your seeds or plants, tools and gloves. There are extra tomato plants and cucumber seedlings for anyone who has a place for them. I have been blogging about the garden at http://sunlvgardens.ning.com/ join the community garden network at www.sunlv.org
