Latest Passenger Rail Info

For those of us interested in whether or not our City and County officials are going to get on board in time to use funding designated by the President for the construction of high-speed passenger rail nationwide, here is a message from WW neighbor, Dennis Lieb with the latest information:

For those interested in bringing rail to Easton, it can't hurt to know the big picture. Below is a link to a newsletter from the website for  urbandesign.org (The preceeding link is just an intro page about what they do - also worth a look ).

If you want to go directly to the organization's newsletter dealing with the topic of the New Deal Nation Rail Plan, which also includes other aspects of transit planning and land use being woven together to create better communities, here is that link:

At the end of the newsletter is an advertisement and another link for the U.S. High Speed Rail Conference for 2009 (US HSR). It is being held in October in Washington DC. Anyone can attend and if you drive into northern Maryland you can actually use DC Metro rail service to get to the city!

Read the newsletter and then click on the link or go directly to the conference website here:

Thanks,

DRL

Dennis, please keep us apprised of any meetings that we can attend to support passenger rail--try to give us as much lead time as possible so that people can rearrange schedules as I know this issue was in the top three in our blog poll, so people will definitely come out if they can. Thanks for keeping tabs on this important issue for us!
