Save Money: Save Water

Rain barrel systems can be ordered at a discount through
Lafayette's tech clinic workshop on water conservation

Below is a message from Sophia at the WWNP, on how residents can save money on water and sewer bills by participating in the water workshop on Tuesday, Dec. 15th at the Easton Community Center:
---------------------------

The Water in the West Ward workshop held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8 at the Easton Area Community Center will be repeated on Tuesday December 15, same place and time. The Lafayette Tech Center students gave a report on practical ways to conserve water and on water usage world wide. They are taking orders with a $20.00 deposit for rain barrels that they will be special ordering from Home Depot. The barrels cost 100 dollars and will be sold for $50. Attached is a picture of the barrel and a link to a picture on the Home Depot website. I have one of these barrels and they fill up quickly, it made me realize how much water we waste that could be used for things like washing clothes, cleaning, and flushing toilets, not to mention watering gardens.

Why not 100% recycled materials? Dont want to sustain oil companies making new petroleum products - plastic.

Why Home Depot? $50 is still alot for West Ward. What is the role of scrappers in the Urban Ecology?

Kudos to students for learning.

Good questions--I'm also not sure whether or not these systems are made to attach to a gray water system, but I guess that's a good question for the workshop.
