West Ward Summit Has Changed--New Date: Tuesday, January 19, 7pm

Our new City Council representative, Mike Fleck emailed me to let readers know that the next West Ward Summit date has changed to Tuesday, January 19th 2010 at Uncle Wesley's at 1100 Bushkill Street 7:00 p.m.

He says to bring our agendas. What would you like him to add to the agenda?

This should be a good opportunity to see what I have observed already on Council. Some of our goals are already moving forward and some we need to look at and see the best way to move. Hope to see you all there.

I must say that things are going well in my area of the west ward. I see vast improvements and a lot of good things coming from city hall. Everyone seems to be working together rather well and that is an improvement from just a few years ago. Let's all stay focused on the goal -- better neighborhoods mean better city.

One thing I would bring up is an expansion of the neighborhood day of last year. I remember when we had the Weat Ward Civic association carnval. It not only raised a lot of money for the west ward it brought neighbors together.

One point that is missing from this agenda so far, that has been brought up in our neighborhood meetings and town hall meetings in the last two years, is DECONVERSION INCENTIVES. The city must stop allowing investors to come in and buy single-family homes and the few remaining storefronts to convert them into mult-unit rentals, destroying the character of our neighbor, reducing storefronts available for entrepreneurs to re-establish a localized neighborhood economy, and adding to the parking problem at night that occurs when you have three families living in a house on a block that was designed for single-family homes.

Please add deconversion incentives to the agenda.
