City Councilman Jeff Warren May Be Forced to Resign from Council for Second Drunk Driving Arrest

Posted by: Noel Jones

Last night, I and another resident were running late to the City Council meeting, and as we were pulling into the church parking lot at 7pm, we saw city officials leaving the basement of St. John's Lutheran, where the meetings have been moved until City Hall renovations are complete.

After talking to one of the stragglers, we learned that only four council people were in attendance--most noticeably absent being Jeff Warren, who has recently been in the spotlight for charges on his second drunk driving offense. The meeting had been uncharacteristically short, and we were told that the mayor had called for Warren to make a public

apology.

Here is Christopher Baxter's article from today's Morning Call with full details. It turns out that because this is Warren's second offense, and therefore, a misdemeanor, if convicted, he will
be forced to resign by City Council according to provisions in our Home Rule Charter.

Hopefully, Warren will just do the right thing, make a public apology, resign, and focus on whether or not it might be time to address the possibility of a drinking problem. It could be a difficult road ahead, considering a conviction comes with a minimum of 30 days of jail time, but we can all be thankful that Warren did not meet any oncoming drivers when he was speeding down the road that night, with his blood alcohol level at twice the legal limit.

MY NAME IS DIANA NAPOLITANO.I AM A RESIDENT OF EASTON. I AM NOT SAYING WHAT COUNCILMAN JEFF WARREN HAS DONE IS RIGHT. HOWEVER, ON THE HAND, THIS MAN WHOM I GIVE SO MUCH CREDIT TO, IS MAKING WAY ON STARTING A RESPONSE TEAM TO "COMBAT HUMAN TRAFFICKING" RIGHT HERE IN THE CITY OF EASTON.THIS IS THE FIRST MAN OR WOMAN OF GOVERNMENT, I HAVE HEARD EVER MENTION THIS, WHICH TELLS ME, HE IS A GOOD MAN, MAYBE, OR MAYBE NOT WITH A DRINKING PROBLEM. MANY GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ARE OUT IN THE BARS AND CLUBS AFTER WORK AND AT NIGHT AND THEY ARE DRINKING. MANY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ARE GETTING DUI'S, CRASHING INTO BUILDINGS, ETC. AND NOTHING HAPPENS TO THEM. PLEASE, MY FELLOW CITIZENS OF EASTON, GIVE THIS MAN A CHANCE. SHOULD HE HAVE TO HAVE A CONSEQUENCE? ABSOLUTELY. FIRED? NO! PEOPLE WITH PROBLEMS SUCH AS THIS, ARE OFTEN VERY GOOD PEOPLE, JUST MAY NEED A LITTLE HELP. GIVE HIM ANOTHER CHANCE. SEND HIM FOR HELP FOR ALCOHOL, AND SEE HOW HE DOES AFTER THAT. I SAY THIS BECAUSE, I AM AN ADVOCATE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS, CHILD EXPLOITATION, COMBATTING HUMAN TRAFFICKING, ETC, ETC, ETC. WE NEED PEOPLE LIKE HIM FOR THESE ISSUES THAT NO OTHERS WILL TAKE ON. PLEASE, I AM BEGGING YOU ALL. GIVE HIM A CHANCE TO GET HELP, THEN IF IT DOESN'T WORK, THEN THERE IS NOTHING MORE I CAN SAY. BUT THINK ABOUT HOW MANY PEOPLE IN GOVERNMENT ARE DOING THE SAME EXACT THING. WE JUST DON'T KNOW ABOUT IT YET, OR MAYBE NEVER WILL. SINCERELY, DIANA NAPOLITANO EASTON, PA
