Final Survey Results and Recommendations for 600 Block of Northampton: Thursday, Feb. 10th

What will be done with the 600 block this time?

Posted by: Noël Jones

For background on the issues with, and planning for, Easton's longest--and possibly most blighted--city block, see my previous post and resident comments. "My assumption is that the City of Easton's Planning Department will be presenting results that were scientifically collected but will be loosely interpreted," said Dennis Lieb, Project Coordinator at the West Ward Neighborhood Partnership. "This is an opportunity for all Easton residents, and especially those in the West Ward, to help shape the physical vision and development of this pivotal block on our main thoroughfare, including the official response to issues with blighted and vacant properties and landlord/tenant issues that have not been addressed for decades, as well as adding a quality grocery store." Below is the announcement from the WWNP:

this block has been an eyesore for decades, thank you for at least trying to address it.

My sole concern here is that the project has been dealt with legally and in depth, which under past administrators has not been the case.
As well, I guess there is the question of the inhabitants of the block, if they are not moved and the landlords do not start background checks and such then we're just building a nice place for bad people and in a few years it will be the same horror that it is today.
With luck , proper lighting and increased police patrols , the destructive ghetto element will move on, but when millions of dollars are involved I tend not to rely on luck.
Dennis, I trust, but the work done before him has been piecemeal at best.
So, sell me this?
Why should we believe?
Peace,
David
