I'm curious about this--was SLO considered an "artist" among entries for the NEA-funded arts festival this summer? In other words, is this a case of "corporate personhood" within the arts world, where companies are now being treated as individual artists?

Good question. Who is SLO? We know the Boys and Girls Club is a national corporation...big bucks.

SLO is an architectural firm. The Boys & Girls Club is a nonprofit.

I don't know about SLO but I can tell you that in Brooklyn, a high school art teacher named Tim Rollins began an art project "troubled" teens and created a project of reading great books and then creating paintings and mixed media works. They became known as Tim Rollins and KOS. Received funding and sold thousands of dollars of work at 57th street galleries and put the money back into funding more projects like this. The individual could have submitted in a similar vein.

It looks as if they do architectural projects that are more like "installation art". Which is what they are doing for the Urban Arts Festival and they could be formed as a non-profit to execute only that type of project.
