Two Signs of Spring!

Leaves budding on trees and...the street sweeper returns!

Posted by: Noël Jones

Few things get me as excited as seeing the street sweeper on my street again. Pathetic, I know--I have to get a life--but seriously--it's like when a five year-old boy points out the window, jumping up and down every time he sees a fire truck (which is why I couldn't resist taking a picture). Clean streets in the West Ward again...sigh...now if we can only get people to remember to move their cars without getting ticketed, they'll be able to get the entire street, instead of each delinquent vehicle sheltering whatever litter is tucked between their wheels and the curb...

can I amend that to PARTS of the west ward; the entire neighborhood north of wood ave from 7th to 13th STILL isn't getting any love from the city.

In an especially nice gesture, the City of Easton was kind enough to give out little warning reminder slips on cars in the street cleaning zone rather than actual tickets. Thanks to whomever it was who came up with that idea! What wonderfully pleasant surprise when you think you have a ticket!

Anon--That WAS nice, considering the signs with the dates are up all year round for all to see...

dirtystreet--are you sure that it's ALL streets between 7th to 13th on the North side? I seem to remember that the expanded program was doing all major streets and most numbered streets but not all alleys throughout the neighborhood, because they couldn't yet get to all alleys...

I know that my house is not on a regular cleeanup street but I admit that I have seen the street sweeper on my block. I called the city to thank them and they told me that when the regular routes are completed they go into other areas even though there may not bre on the route.

I think this administration gets it about the value of neighborhoods. These new programs really clean up our neighborhood, crime is down and I love the new home programs. I was amazed to find that the 3-unit on Chidsey Street which has been blighted for at least a decade is getting rehabbed under the city program.

check it yourself as someone else posted the map. there are no alternate side parking signs in this neighborhood.
I agree w/ the other poster though, yes, they did come around once or twice randomly after the regular routes are completed. but without a schedule, you can't move your car, they camn't get to the curb so I think the effort is futile.

It's not a political statement. Some effort should be made to extend the program. If there are parked cars you cannot really clean the streets.

good points--the residents who are not getting street cleaning should continue to lobby the city for it. it won't happen otherwise. we had to have several meetings with the city to get the extended program from what it was before.

my street is not cleaned on the regular program but I did call city hall last week to let them know I appreciated their efforts last year in getting to my street several times, probably at least 7 - 8 times throughout the season.

I asked if and when the program would be expanded and they said that the mayor actually wanted to expand it this year but the expansion was cut from the budget to maintain a no tax increase. The person in the department said they are still loking to expand in 2012.

Either way i am happy. our neighbors clean their gutters and it's nive to travel throught the main areas of the west ward and see the clean streets.

And yes I agree about the triple on Chidsey street and told the mayor directly. It will be a huge improvement.

I have to agree with you. The owner of those vehicles must give way to street sweeper trucks, so they can clean the entire area. It wouldn’t take an hour for them to move their cars and they will be the ones who will gain benefit from it, after all.

A street sweeper belongs to the monster truck club. They are huge and I think that's what fascinates us. You're not the only one who's spellbound by them. In fact, I wait for them too. I still look at them by the window just like the old days. Hehe! Sometimes things like this makes me feel like I'm going back to my childhood.
