Good News on the Easton Area School Board Budget

Posted by: Noël Jones

The good news: according to Colin McEvoy's article for the Express-Times, balancing of the Easton Area School District's budget seems to finally be within reach, and without firing any teachers this year, like we did last year. After a pay-freeze to administrators and concessions from the teachers' union, as well as the early retirement of several teachers that will not be replaced, what started as a budget gap in excess of $14 million this year, has now been whittled down to $1.77 million.

The confusing news: Easton residents will have a 1.7% tax increase, while Bucks County residents will
enjoy a .72% property tax decrease. I am still confused as to how this works, and appreciate comments from any readers who can break it down for us!

The school board decided to table approving the budget until the next meeting, which will be next Thursday, June 23rd, 6:30pm at the Easton Area Education Center, 1801 Bushkill Drive.
