5 Citizens Step Forward to Run for Easton Area School Board Vacancies!

The five new candidates are (from left to right) Janet Matthews,
Kenneth Kasprzak, Cathy McIntyre, Bonnie Green, and Bob Moskaitis.

Colin McEvoy reports for the Express-Times that five intrepid Forks residents have said enough is enough, and have thrown their hats into the ring in the race for two school board seats vacated by Sarah Bilotti and Jen Holzberger of Region III, which covers part of Lower Mount Bethel Township, Forks Township and Easton's West Ward and College Hill neighborhoods.

I want to hear everything you know about these people! Please post a comment if you know any of them, and MARK YOUR CALENDARS. They will be interviewed (which means they stand up at the podium, just like citizens who speak up do) at the next special school board meeting on August 18th, 1801 Bushkill Drive, 6:30 p.m. Residents will also be able to speak up as to who they think should be appointed. Two appointments will be made from these applicants that night, but
that does not necessarily determine who will be on the ballot for those positions. The deadline for the two parties to nominate their candidates is August 25th.

Once the parties have made their nominations, I will be interviewing the candidates to give them some exposure on the blog so that we can get to know more about them before the election--stay tuned! In the meantime, I just want to say THANK YOU to all five residents for stepping forward to enter the race, and another THANK YOU to everyone out there who has been searching to find good candidates to run so that we can have a real race and a real choice for voters this fall. This is exciting--with 7 out of 9 positions turning over this fall, people are stepping to the plate and taking our local government back to make it work for the voters like it's supposed to! Down with croneyism, apathy and cynicism! The tide is turning...

Yay! This is great news! Kudos to all five for stepping forward. They are volunteering to give up a lot of their time to represent us. We should respect that by showing up to hear what they have to say on Thursday night. Hooray!

I look forward to seeing many of you at the interviews Thursday at 6:30.

Our children deserve quality education and the tax payer deserves careful, deliberate, effective, and efficient use of our hard earned money!

Bonnie--thanks so much for posting so readers/voters can get to know you.

Does anyone have questions for Bonnie?

Bob Moskaitis was appointed to Jen Holzberger's vacant seat on the school board last night. I have to say, it was an absolute pleasure to see five good candidates vying for one vacated board seat. Last election we couldn't even find one person to run against Pat Vulcano, who waltzed right in to his re-election.

The very real potential for change on the school board this time around is in the air, and Easton residents can smell it--the optimism and determination is infectious. This is going to be the best election that Easton has seen in a very long time--real races, with real campaigning and real choices for voters--I love it!

I will soon be interviewing the new candidates that the Democratic and Republican parties have nominated for the race this fall...stay tuned.
