Puppets Theater in Centre Square This Thursday

Posted by: Noël Jones

Bring the kids! Patchwork Puppet Theatre will perform on Thursday, August 18th from noon to 1pm in the southwest quadrant of Easton’s Centre Square as part of the Summer in the Square series. The performance is free and open to the public.

Roger Von Bing returns to Centre Square after several successful past performances there.  Patchwork Puppet Theatre has been entertaining audiences of all ages with their new spins on old classics for twenty years. For example in their rendition of “Rapunzel”, she has long multi-colored hair and wants to escape from the “funky” old witch and be a rock star. Rapunzel is eventually saved by a swinging cool prince who really digs her style.

I love these shows every Thursday and try to get my kids there. I understand that they are sponsored by the city. Great job.

don't worry tunsie--if I make a tunsie puppet show it will be the coolest ever--the puppet stage will be a U-shaped bar and there will be lots of jazz cats on stage with you...

actually, what i really love is good marionettes--did anyone ever see the film Being John Malkovich? the marionette work is the best i've ever seen--here's the video of the beginning of the film:

if anyone has video links to greater puppetry than this (or even just other really great puppetry), i challenge you to post it!

tunsie, i would NEVER forget the FEZ on a tunsie puppet! there will also be puppet regulars around the bar, swaying and singing to Marvin Gaye's entire "What's Going On" album, that the tunsie puppet DJ's when the jazz band take a break...

there will also be an Erica puppet gliding around and greeting everyone, and a Patrick Poladian puppet on the piano...

and lots of memorabilia on the walls of the puppet stage behind the bar.

Ok, since nobody else grabbed it first--here's another amazing example of puppetry from the comedic satire "Team America":

But I still think that the work in "Being John Malkovich" is the best!
