Northampton Street Renovations Hit Unforeseen Snag

Wonder why the street improvement project on Northampton seems to be moving slowly? That's because construction workers discovered basements, gas and water lines that extended under the right-of-way once they started digging, that were not on the blueprints. As Tom Jones, Urban Conservator of the WWNP says, "some of these houses have been here over 100 years--there's a lot that's gone on in that time that isn't on the drawings."

Construction will continue in other areas of Northampton while these damages are repaired, but the cost of repairs might effect the overall budget for the project. Below is an Express Times Article by Ed Sieger:

Hopefully it won't cost too much to fix the basements, because CACLV and WWNP have such beautiful plans for this block, which has been in need of fixing up for a very long time. Anyone who is interested in the project can stop by the West Ward Neighborhood Partnership at 668 Northampton to talk to Tom Jones, who can tell you all about it.
